Experiences

The retreat experience can mean different things to different people. So often it is much more than simply learning how to make a few new dishes, but how to change the way we live each day. Conscious eating isn’t so much about completing an everyday task with austerity, but rather how we can engage with a playful sense of wonder every time we step into the kitchen. This is what people have to say…

Cooking with Daniel reminds one to savour, smile, use all the senses, share, be conscious, enjoy… to rejoice in the everyday delight of cooking and eating seasonally. Daniel is quite simply a delight!

“Taking part in Daniel’s seasonal cooking workshops changed the way in which I approach food in general as well as my thinking on planning each meal. After the first one I felt like I finally had found someone who not only spoke my language, but was a fluent linguist! Daniel has a gift for conveying a wealth of knowledge with such enthusiasm that you cannot help but be transported into a world of colour, aroma and gastronomical delight.”

Food preparation can be a wonderful meditation, but what I brought back from the retreats and what we as a family still use, is the idea of everyone helping and gathering together to peel, chop and prepare from scratch delicious and nutritious meals, my hubby has become an ace kitchen fairy!
I have also felt inspired to venture forth to shop and gather new spices and ingredients to create the delicious flavours, it has been a real food adventure!
Everyone can benefit  by living seasonally and with nature, nature knows best and being in harmony will nourish you on a deep level.  The retreats will give you the knowledge and know how, calm you with meditation, energize you with morning qi gong and infuse you with humour and playfulness.”

“I have attended many food workshops in South Africa and Asia but none in the ‘Daniel style.’  By me, the Daniel style is an extremely knowledgeable young man who at all stages is aware of his audience and has the ability of being all things to all people. He has the ability of answering the most simple of questions and making the person feel that the question was  a major breakthrough in the culinary world, his recipes and thoughts that he shares are invaluable.
I have been to two sessions and walked away from both being richer in knowledge and spirit, my suggestion for future classes is just keep it as it is!”

“Daniel’s Seasonal Living workshops are amazing. When I attended my first one I did not have a clue about cooking…anything. I was running a Shiatsu school at the time and so my background was in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Five Elements and this seemed the perfect choice for me. I had no real interest in cooking, but I wanted to provide a healthier diet for myself and my family. Well, I loved every moment of it. Daniel has such a warm, open, enthusiastic style to his teaching that even those of us with little interest in the culinary arts find ourselves inspired. The workshops were absolutely packed with information on health, food, shopping and even movement to aid in health and wellbeing. Daniel has literally transformed the way that I think about food preparation and instead of this being a chore, has become part of my daily meditation. Thank you Daniel. You are a godsend to anyone wanting to live a more wholesome life!”

“Daniel has led me to deeper understanding  and appreciation of preparing and eating nourishing seasonal meals. It is a blessed revelation to find someone with a philosophy about food both wholesome and kind. His warmth, hospitality, generosity and fabulous sense of humour and style continue to enrich my life, far beyond the kitchen. Thanks Daniel-San”
